Uses : Traditionally plant is used as anti-asthmatic, anti-inflammatory, anti-fertility and anti-diarrhoeal, antiseptic, anti-dysenteric, anti-tubercular, leprosy, paralysis, helminth infection, allergic rhinitis, astringent, to treat the eye, psychoactive, flu, lung problems, pectoral problems, cough, gingivitis, abdominal tumours. It is also used in the treatment of ringworms and wounds by washing the affected areas, gonorrhoea, leucorrhoea and other genital diseases. Plant also shows cardio protective effects. The bark is used for making soap and for tanning. Its wood provides a good source of fuel, and is used for making cabinets and doors. Its pulp is short-fibered and used for paper production when mixed with long-fibred pulp.

General Description: It is a medium to large sized tree with grey-brown bark; leaves are bipinnate, the primary leaflets are subopposite, 2-4 pairs; ultimate leaflets are opposite, 6-8 pairs, oblong, slightly asymmetric, blunt, 2.5-4.5cm long. Flowers are mimosa-like, in showy, rounded clusters near stem tips, 5-6cm across, cream or yellowish-white, each flower with numerous long stamens. Fruit is a flat, linear pod, to 30cm long, with many seeds; dried pods persistent after leaf-fall, often heard rattling in the wind.
