Uses : It used to treat many diseases such as treatment of mouth and stomach ulcers, hot swellings, smallpox, burning sensation and ophthalmopathy. Traditionally, the hard, white seeds of the fruit were threaded into necklaces and given to children as a protection from diseases. An olive-brown, fixed oil is obtained from the seed. It is used for burning. The wood is sometimes used for construction, turnery, tool handles

General Description: It is a moderate-sized, evergreen tree, growing up to 12m in height. It has pendant branches and dark grey bark having horizontal lenticels. Leaves are simple, alternately arranged, dark green, shiny, elliptic-oblong, distantly serrated. Male flowers, with short stalks, in rounded axillary clusters, female flowers 1-3in leaf axil. Fruits ellipsoid or rounded drupes, white velvety; seed normally one, stone pointed, rugose, very hard.
