Uses : Triphala is a widely used herbal formulation in Indian traditional medicine that consists of fruits derived from three tree varieties: Embilica officinalis, Terminalia belerica, and Terminalia chebula. The composition of triphala is rich in various antioxidants such as ascorbic, ellagic, gallic, as well as chebulinic acids and several classes of flavonoids. This herbal mixture has been recommended for treating various diseases including microbial infections, constipation, anemia, fatigue, tuberculosis, pneumonia, STDs, etc.

General Description:

It is a tall handsome tree, with characteristic bark, 12-50m tall. Leaves are alternately arranged or fascicled at the end of branches, elliptic or elliptic obovate, leathery, dotted, entire. Leaf tip is narrow- pointed or rounded. Leaves are 8-20cm long, 7.5-15cm wide, on stalks 2.15cm long. Flowers arise in spikes in leaf axils, 5-15cm long. Flowers are greenish yellow, 5-6mm across, stalkless, upper flowers of the spike are male, lower flowers are bisexual. Stamens are 3-4mm long. Fruit is obovoid 1.5-2.5cm in diameter, covered with minute pale pubescence, stone very thick, indistinctly 5 angled.
